Surfing has a lot do with longing: a longing for freedom, for the perfect wave, the endless summer. So who could make a better surfing movie than the Austrians? Five young men from that Alpine country set out in early 2004 for a three month surfing trip from California to Costa Rica, taking one Super 8, one 16 mm and one digital film camera along for the expedition. The film created during their trip is more than a diary of an adventurous 7000-mile journey along the seaboard. Continuous voice-over narration interweaves images of sunsets, beach huts and surfing escapades into an essay on the ways and view of life of the wave rider. A self-awareness trip told with a wink, tiptoeing between beatnik philosophy and shower gel commercial.
